Senior Hurling

On Tuesday 18th last and although seriously hampered by injuries, the Ahane Senior team had a tough ACHL match away to Patrickswell.  The match was very even in the 1st half as both teams were content to take their points from out the field and at half-time, Ahane deservedly led by the narrowest of margins on a score-line of 0-11 to 0-10.  Patrickswell came out of the blocks quickest in the 2nd half, scored a couple of goals and the game seemed to slip away from Ahane's grasp and Patrickswell ran out easy winners in the end on a score-line of 2-22 to 0-13.

Ahane Seniors also took on Ballyhea in Mackey Park on Saturday 22nd in a challenge game and in a very competitive match throughout, Ballyhea led by 2-08 to 0-10 at half-time.  However, Ahane settled better in the 2nd half and ran out deserved winners in the end on a scoreline of 0-22 to 2-13.  This was a very good run out in preparation for the 1st round championship game v Doon in 2 weeks’ time.

Minor Hurling

Our Minors were at home to Garryspillane on Friday last 21st April in the Premier Minor Championship and although this was a very young Ahane team on the night, they put in a great performance.  Unfortunately they lost out in the end to a very strong Garryspillane team by 0-25 to 0-16 which leaves the team with one win and one defeat going into the championship break due to the state exams.  Training continues on Sunday mornings and midweek from next week.

U15 : On Tuesday April 18th Ahane hosted Adare in the Under 15 Hurling league. Those in attendance were treated to a cracking game of hurling. There was tremendous skill and passion displayed by both teams and in the end, Adare emerged victorious on a score line of 3-06 to 3-04. Gavin Rowsome in goals had a solid game making some great saves throughout, the full-back line of Jack Barry, Aiden Carroll and William O’Leary defended brilliantly and kept the Adare forwards at bay while in front of them, the half back line of Liam O Mara, Kevin Morrissey and Tom O Hanlon closed the opposition down time and again and attacked every ball that came their way. The midfield of Mark Donnellan and Adam Murrihy worked up and down the field tirelessly helping out in defence when required and also adding to the attack when in possession. The half forward line of Tom Marsden, Glen Jones and Peter Donohoe ran at their opposite numbers time and again and their pace and power had the Adare half back line under pressure throughout. In the full forward line, Mark Hickey, Conor O Brien and Gavin Cole caused all sorts of problems for the Full back line of Adare winning high ball time after time and scoring 2-02 between them. Replacements in the shape of Eddie Hartigan and Cormac Greaney added some much needed fresh legs in the 2nd half and they both added to the cause as the game wound down. One or two opportunities of goals came Ahane's way in the closing minutes but credit to the opposition defence for holding firm. Credit too to the 2 unused subs of John Donohoe and Colm Slattery Wright, both of whom are under 13 and will add to the team as the campaign rolls on into the summer. Next up is an U15 football league game at home to Ballylanders at home this Thursday evening at 7pm. Then on Monday May 1st, the U15 hurlers travel to Feenagh to take on Belville Gaels.
