Ahane GAA Notes

Senior Hurling : The Ahane Senior Hurlers training continued on Tuesday and Thursday and was followed by a very stiff and competitive challenge match v Wolfe Tones GAA of Shannon on Saturday evening.  This sees Ahane putting the final touches to their preparations in the lead up to the 1st round Credit Union Senior Hurling Championship match v neighbours Doon, which is fixed for Saturday next 06th May in Cappamore at 7.30pm.  All the best to the team.

Minor Hurling : The Minor hurlers continue training on Thursday and Sunday in preparation for the restart of the Premier Championship which is currently on a break until the end of June due to state exams.  The Minors will continue non-contact training during the coming weeks.

New Sponsor : The launch of Ahane’s new Sponsor for 2017 – Martin Haugh of Munster Tree Surgeons – will take place in the coming week, prior to the start of the Championship.  Ahane GAA would like to wish Martin and Munster Tree Surgeons all the very best for 2017 and we are looking forward to the new partnership.

Camán Ahane : Comhghairdeas leis an bhfoireann camógaiochta as ucht an sár bhua a bhí acu dé Domhnaigh. Bhuaigh siad cluiche ceannais na sraithe camógaiochta (sinsir).  An scór: Atháin 1-16  Caisleán Nua Thiar 1-3.  Beidh na hiománaithe ag dul chun catha dé Sathairn seo chugainn sa Cheapach Mhór. Go néirí go geal leo!

Camogie : Congratulations to the Senior Camogie team who won the Limerick Senior Camogie league County Final over the weekend against Newcastlewest.  The team put in a superb performance to take the title on a score of 1-16 to 1-3.  Well done to all the players, team Captain Judith Mulcahy and all the management team led by Manager Phelim Macken.

U10 : Hurling Training continues Monday 6:30-7:45pm and Friday 6:30-7:45pm.  Football training will now be on Sunday morning‘s from 10:30-11:30.

U12 : the U12 Hurlers travelled to Adare last week for a challenge game ahead of the start of the U12 Hurling league next week. The pitch in Adare was in excellent condition and despite the cold evening, there was some fine hurling from both Ahane and Adare teams and there was nothing between the teams at the end of the match after a highly entertaining and free flowing game. The Ahane players combined very well to score 4-12 over the hour of hurling which is very positive at the start of the season - well done to all 16 players last night.  A big thank you to Bill Heffernan, mentors and the Adare U12 players and Adare referee for a very sporting and competitive game.  We look forward to seeing you back in Ahane later in the season for another entertaining challenge game.  The U12 Hurlers have their first U12 Hurling League game away to Na Piarsaigh on Thursday next 04th May.

The Ahane U12 Football team had their first Football league match of the season on Thursday last with an away fixture against St. Patrick's.  St. Patrick's got off to a great start with a well taken goal to open the scoring but the Ahane players came back strongly and scored 3 excellent points to have the teams level at half-time 0-3 to 1-0.  The players raised their game considerably in the second half and with the defence well on top and the team playing a nice brand of flowing football the players scored an admirable 2-7 in the second half to take the win. Well done to all 17 players - Stephen, Ciaran, Jack, Kyle, Darragh, Will, James D, Sean, Cathal, Cian, James O'M, Paddy, James R, Jamie, John, Tony and Ryan.  Thank you to St. Patrick's for a sporting game of football and to the supporters of the Ahane team who roared on the players on the night.  Football training will now move to Sunday morning‘s from 10:30-11:30.
