Ahane GAA Notes - Week of 08th May 2017

Senior Hurling : Ahane's Senior hurlers played the 1st round of the Credit Union sponsored Senior Hurling Championship match against local neighbours Doon on Saturday evening last with young Minor Ciarán Barry making his Senior Championship Hurling debut for Ahane.  The first half of the match was a very tight and tense affair with neither side really getting the upper hand and the score at half time was just 0-07 to 0-04 in favour of Doon.  The 2nd half was a more open affair but the decisive goal went to Doon after 38mins and despite Ahane finishing very strongly and having Doon under the cosh, Doon held out to win on a very low final scoreline on the night of 1-12 to 0-11.

Ahane Squad v Doon : Adam O’Brien, Mark Foley, Fergus Aherne, Ciarán Barry, Jeff Enright, Dan Morrissey, Paul O’Halloran, Stephen Power, Ciarán O’Mara, Mark O' Halloran, David Laing, William Shanahan, Niall Moran, Mike Carr, Killian Enright. Jonathan Hayes, Tom Morrissey, John Fox, Mike Hayes, Shane Hackett, Seamus Hartnett, Tom Doheny, Mike Fox, Tommy Clifford, Cathal Ryan, Aaron Hackett, Evan Enright, Paddy Morrissey, Paul Ryan, Pat Minehan.

Next up for Ahane Seniors is the SHC meeting with 2016 County Finalists Ballybrown which is fixed for a 7pm throw in at Childers Road on Friday next 12th May - all support on the night will be appreciated.

Minor Hurling : Minor Training this week was very kindly taken by Senior Hurler Niall Moran, Senior Hurling Goalie Johnathon Hayes and James Moran – the excellent training sessions were very much appreciated by the players.  Training continues on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings

New Sponsor – Munster Tree Surgeons : The Ahane Senior Hurlers wore  the new jerseys with the Munster Tree Surgeons brand at the Ahane v Doon game on Saturday evening last  – sincere thanks to Martin Haugh for his support.

Camán Ahane : Theip ar Atháin sa chéad bhabhta den craobh sinsir Luimnigh dé Sathairn sa Cheapach Mhór. Ní raibh foireann Atháin chomh láidir agus ba choir toisc go raibh dream acu gortaithe agus in easnamh dá bharr.  Thosaigh Dún Bleisce ar nós na gaoithe agus bhí cúlbáire Atháin an ghnothach sa chéad leath. Bhí sé thar barr agus shábháil sé ceithre chúl ar a laghad. Ach sheas imreoirí Atháin an fód cé go raibh Dún ag ionsai go minic agus bhí Atháin sa chluiche go dtí an deireadh.  Atháin 0-11 Dún Bleisce 1-12.  Beidh an chéad cluiche eile de hAoine seo chugainn I gClochán. Atháin v Baile Brún ar an 12ú de Bhealtaine ag 7:30 in.

U6 – there was a super turnout of 38 children on Monday last which was our first night outdoors.  Training is now starting a little later from 6 – 6.45pm.

U8 - the U8 Hurlers got their season off to a very solid start on Friday evening last with an away blitz to Ballybrown. A record number of 33 kids attended the away fixture and gave a great account of themselves in 3 evenly contested games.  There was plenty of timber clashing in good strong but very fair games of hurling and the clash of the ash was heard on many occasions - some 5 Hurley's were broken and those that can be repaired will no doubt be on their way to George Lee, Jimmy Ryan and other local hurley repair experts for running repairs. Well done to all the boys and girls who put on a super effort last night - a special mention must go to Kevin McNamara for a spectacular overhead catch followed by a magnificent point from halfway and then scoring a goal with his broken hurley! Also well done to Darragh Redfern for playing on with a cut to his catching hand, David Moran for an excellent performance, Sarah Cusack and Wayne Kiely on superb U8 debuts and to Rian Gill for a very industrious display around the middle of the field. This is a team to watch out for in the future and they continue to train every Monday evening from 6-7pm. Well done to all involved, parents and supporters who travelled to Ballybrown and especially the players who played so well.  Football training on Sunday morning 1030-1130.

U10 – the U10 Hurlers had 2 teams taking part in a blitz in St. Patrick's GAA Club on Friday evening. Each of the Ahane teams enjoyed three games of hurling. One of the Ahane team’s played Monaleen, South Liberties and Na Piarsaigh. The other Ahane team played Claughan, Ballybrown and Monaleen.  All of the matches were competitive and the boys really enjoyed a great evening of hurling.  Hurling Training continues Monday 6:30-7:45pm and Friday 6:30-7:45pm.  Football training continues on Sunday morning‘s from 10:30-11:30.

U12 – the U12 hurlers had their first Hurling League game away to Na Piarsaigh on Thursday last 04th May.  The boys tired hard on the night but were second best to a stronger Na Piarsaigh side.   Training continues on Monday and Friday evenings.   The U12 Football team have their next Football league match of the season on Thursday next 11th May with a home fixture against Monaleen.

U14 – the U14 group continue to train ahead of league matches which are due to start next week.
