Ahane GAA Notes

Senior Hurling : The focus for Ahane's Senior hurlers this week was the round 2 of the Senior Hurling Championship meeting with Ballybrown, fixed for the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening.  With a number of players coming back from injuries, confidence was high coming into the match and Ahane started much the better team and led by 5pts to 1 early on, however Ballybrown worked their way back into it and there was only 1 point in it at half time with Ahane leading by 0-10 to 0-09.  The 2nd half started well for Ahane with Niall Moran converting a penalty, but Ballybrown kept themselves in the game with the free taking of Alan O Connor and though Ahane led by 5pts with 15mins to play, Ballybrown got back to level the game in the 60th minute.  So disappointing in the end just to have drawn the match, but overall Ahane can take a lot of positives from the performance.

Minor Hurling : Training continues on Sundays and Thursdays and with the state exams coming up, all training will be to non-contact for the duration of the exams, whilst still maintaining the intensity in training.

Camán Ahane : Iomáint Sinsir: Atháin 1-16  Baile Brún 0-19.  Cluiche cothrom a bhí ann idir Atháin agus Baile Brún, oíche de Sathairn, I bpáirc na nGael. Bhí Cuma air go mbeadh an bua ag Atháin agua iad ceithre chúilín chun tosaigh agus an cluiche ag druidim chun deiridh. Ach chríochnaigh Baile Brún go láidir agus fuair said ceithre chúilín as a chéile chun an cluiche a shábháil. Tá an dá fhoireann beo fós sa chraobh.

Filíocht: Beidh ‘Oíche Filíochta’ in áras an chlub dé Céadaoin, 24ú de Bhealtaine. Tosóidh sé ar a 8.00in.  Fáilte roimh chách!   There will be a night of poetry (as Gaeilge) in Ahane clubhouse on Wednesday, May 24th at 8.00pm. Everybody welcome. Please support.

U6 – the great numbers at training continues. Niall Moran took half of the training session focusing on fundamental skills and Paul Kennedy showed the parents the basics of hurling grip, striking and length of hurley.  Paul and Niall finished the session by showing some basic fundamentals and training tips to work on at home.

U8 - the U8 Hurlers took part in the first county blitz of the season in South Liberties on Friday evening last.  There was a great turnout of 23 players despite the inclement weather and with over 10 clubs represented, there were some great games.  Ahane separated into 2 teams and had 3 games each.  Special mention on this occasion has to go to Harry Kett who dribbled the ball on the ground from his own half to set up one of Ahane’s goals and also to Joe Hartigan for a whole-hearted display.  The evening finished up with both Ahane teams playing each other in a fun game and the children had a very enjoyable evening.  The mentors plan to have the players and group arrive a little earlier at future blitzes to ensure that the teams are setup and  warmed up before the games start.  Football training on Sunday morning 1030-1130.

U10 – the U10 group continue to have great numbers training.  Hurling Training continues Monday 6:30-7:45pm and Friday 6:30-7:45pm.  Football training continues on Sunday morning‘s from 10:30-12:00.

U12 – last week was a busy week for the U12 Group.  The Football team had their second game of the Football league.  After a great win against St. Patrick's in Round 1, Ahane played against near neighbours Monaleen.  The 18 players put in a great team performance over the course of the game, played some lovely football and took some nice scores but were unlucky to lose by a goal. Well done on a super team effort to one and all - Paddy, Kyle, Adam, John C, Ryan, Sean, Cathal, Stephen, Jack, James O'M, Will, James R, David, Donnacha, Cian, Nathan, Jamie and Ciaran.  Football training continues on Sunday morning 1030-1200.  The Hurlers enjoyed a highly entertaining and committed challenge game against Murroe last week with many of the U11's featuring strongly during the game.  The defence and goalkeeper did really well and there was some nice scores taken by the forwards.  There was also a great improvement in the team performance in the second half with particular focus on winning the breaking ball.  The Hurlers also travel for a challenge game in Borrisleigh on Monday evening instead of a training session.  The players will benefit greatly from these training games ahead of the next U12 Hurling league game scheduled for Friday this week against Monaleen.

U14 – the U14 group continue to train ahead of league matches.  The Football league starts next week with the Hurling league starting the following week.
