Ahane GAA Notes

Senior Hurling : Ahane Seniors returned to training this week with a break until the weekend of June 9th-12th from the Senior Hurling Club Championship.  Next match is the All County Senior Hurling League meeting with Adare fixed for Mackey Park on Tuesday evening 23rd May at 7.30pm - all support on the night will be very much appreciated and we would also appreciate ongoing support to our main sponsor Munster Tree Surgeons during the course of the season.

Junior Football : Our Junior Footballers are in the East Football Final on Sunday against Pallasgreen.  Game is fixed for Murroe/Boher at 7.30pm on 28th May.

Minor Hurling : Training continues on Sundays and Thursdays and with the state exams coming up, all training has switched to non-contact for the duration of the exams.

Poetry : There will be a night of poetry (as Gaeilge) in Ahane clubhouse on Wednesday, May 24th at 8.00pm.  Everybody welcome.

Road Hurling : The Senior Hurling panel arranged a Road Hurling Fundraiser 2017 on Saturday afternoon last 20th May with a large turnout taking part in the event.  With each team consisting of 3 players, the route took the teams from Daly’s Cross up through Gardenhill and down Wood Road finishing near the flyover / Old Dublin Road.  A great day out was had by all that participated and there was plenty of craic during the afternoon which was followed by presentation of prizes, food, raffle and music later in the evening.  Well done to Mark Foley, Fergus Aherne and all who organised the event and supported on the day and there were lots of calls after an enjoyable day for the Road Hurling Day to be repeated on an annual basis.

U6 / U8 – well done to all on the great numbers at hurling and football training.

U10 – the Football team took part in a blitz in Boher last week with a super turnout of 18 players for football on the night which meant we had 2 teams.  The players enjoyed games against 2 Monaleen teams and 1 team from Murroe/Boher.  The teams played well during the games and it was a good run-out for the boys especially for some of the players who have only recently starting to participate in training after clashes with other sporting codes over the past 2 months.  Training for all U10 footballers continues on Sunday morning from 1030-1200 - it is important that the players make the training sessions as it will improve their basic skills, passing and teamwork and the football games will be even more enjoyable over the months ahead. Well done all and see you on Sunday morning in Mackey Park.

Hurling Training continues Monday 6:30-7:45pm and Friday 6:30-7:45pm.  Football training continues on Sunday morning‘s from 10:30-12:00.

U12 –  The hurlers hosted our near neighbours Monaleen last week in the U12 Hurling League with a highly entertaining game played in Mackey Park in front of a great turnout of parents and supporters.  Following a very competitive and close football game in the U12 Football League against Monaleen the previous week where Monaleen took the spoils and many of the same players on both teams, it was the Ahane U12 hurlers who took the upper hand this time round and ran out deserved winners on the night after a great team performance.  There was a panel of 18 players last night which was a great turnout despite missing a few players to another code and a few injuries. The players performed very well, took some great scores and played for one another and there was a determined, spirited and enjoyable team effort by the full panel which was great to see from the sidelines.  The recent challenge games against Borrisleigh (where we had 18 players travel) together with some training at home is benefiting the players who are building nicely for the rest of the season.  A big thank you to parents and supporters who travelling to Borrisleigh and who supported the boys in Mackey Park against Monaleen.

We had a record number attend Football training on Sunday last ahead of the U12 Football League game against Mungret this week.  Football training continues every Sunday morning 1030-1200.

U14 – the U14 group continue to train ahead of league matches.  The Football league started this week with Ahane away to Dromcollogher on Monday evening.  The U14 Hurlers have their first league game on Wednesday next week 31st May with a home fixture against St. Lawrences.
