Ahane's Young Minor Hurlers finished the season with a great display in Mackey Park as they overcame a very resilient Adare team on a scoreline of 1-25 to 1-07.

Ahane started in fine form with a quick point from Dan Minehan followed by a fine goal from William Brennan. But Adare came back and scored 2 points from frees before Ronan Fox and Ronan Reale tapped over points to leave it 1-06 to 0-03 midway in the 1st half. Ahane were well in control at this stage but could not breach a strong Adare defense for that 2nd goal and so relied on long range efforts, but Ahane still had a commanding lead of 1-13 to 0-05 at half time with 1-12 from play and no fewer than 8 scorers including Dan Minehan, William Brennan, Ronan Fox, Ronan Reale, Conor Morrissey, Luke O Sullivan, Conor Heffernan and Peter O Grady.
The 2nd half started more competitively as Adare scored a goal early on but this just seemed to spur on Ahane and Ronan Fox scored 2 more points, William Brennan 4 points, Ronan Reale 4 frees and Ciarán Barry 2 points including one superb point after soloing from midfield.
Some outstanding performances from several players on the night including Darragh Keogh and Andrew Shanahan who both really stood out.
Team on the night included:
Kevin Morrissey, Ishan Conroy, Padraig Harnett, Sean Feeney, Peter O Grady, Ciarán Barry (captain) Andrew Shanahan, Dan Minehan, Darragh Keogh, Ronan Fox, Conor Morrissey, William Brennan, Luke O Sullivan, Ronan Reale, Conor Heffernan, Jack Barry, Denis Hayes, Aidan Carroll, David Brennan and Paddy Hoen Quinn.

All in all it was a very satisfying performance and a nice way to finish the year, but in truth this minor team underachieved and could easily have made the playoff stages, given the level of ability in this squad and the huge commitment and excellent training given to them twice a week since February by the management team of John Meskell (Snr), Colm Barry and especially Senior Hurler John Meskell (Jnr) who provided superb training throughout the year.

However compliments must be paid to all the minor players who did put in huge effort throughout the year - they will surely have big futures with the club.

The Ahane Minor Management of John Meskell, Colm Barry and Johnny Meskell would also like to extend our best wishes for the remainder of the season to the many young players from the U16 and U15 grades who were part of our playing squad.
