Ahane GAA : Weekly Notes 25th September 2017

Senior Hurling : Our Senior hurlers play in the County Cup Final against South Liberties on Saturday next 30th September in the Gaelic Grounds.  Please come out to support and roar on the team in the Final.

New Additional Facilities / Dressing Rooms Project :  The construction of our 2 new dressing rooms project is progressing well. The new dressing rooms will add much needed facilities to our clubhouse. More about our new project can be found at www.ahanegaa.ie/about under the heading of "Loan share scheme".

Junior Football : Our Junior Football team will play in the County Junior A Football Championship Quarter Finals v  Fr. Caseys on Friday evening next 29th September in Mick Neville Park at 6.45pm.  All the best to the football squad in the game.

As Gaeilge :  Atháin v Saor Theas.  Beidh foireann sinsir Atháin ag imirt I bPáirc na nGael Dé Sathairn seo chugainn, 30ú Meán Fómhair sa chluiche cheannais de Chorn an Chontae (County Cup). Go néirí leo!  Thug foireann faoi 21 Luimnigh cuairt ar Atháin Dé hAoine seo caite agus Corn na hÉireann acu. Bhí slua breá chun fáilte a chur rompu agus bhí an bród le feiscint nuair a tháinig Tom Morrissey leis an gCorn. B’é Tom an chéad duine ón gclub a leag lámha ar Chorn Éirinn Uile ó go raibh Micheál Mac Aodha ina réim.

Limerick U21 Hurlers :  We had a huge turnout in Ahane GAA Club on Friday evening last when the All Ireland U21 Hurling champions were given a massive reception in celebration of their great achievement in Thurles in capturing the All Ireland with a memorable display over Kilkenny.  Led by Pat Donnelly, captain and one of our own Ahane players Tom Morrissey and many of the management team, players and Limerick Chairman Oliver Mann, there was a tremendous welcome given by everyone in Ahane GAA Club.  Ahane Chairman Colm Barry, Club Secretary Mary Ryan and Bord na nÓg Chairman and excellent MC for the evening Brian O'Mara led the warm Ahane welcome to the victorious U21 team roared on by all those in attendance in the Clubhouse. It was a special evening for all the younger members of the Club who got to ask their U21 heroes many questions and got the opportunity to have their photos taken with the players and trophies, jerseys and hurleys signed and have lots of interesting hurling conversation.  A presentation was made to Tom Morrissey of a framed and engraved photo and a presentation was also given to U21 Hurling team manager Pat Donnelly to recognise the efforts of Pat, the management team and all the players in their All Ireland success.  On behalf of all those involved in Ahane GAA club, we sincerely thank this special group of U21 players and management for a memorable evening and for superb hurling over the course of their run to All Ireland U21 success – special mention to our Ahane duo to Tom Morrissey and to Denis Murrihy on their fantastic achievement.  A big thank you to Tom for taking time to visit the boys and girls in Castleconnell NS, Lisnagry NS, Ahane NS, everyone in Ahane GAA and many others in the parish during the week  WELL DONE AND THANK YOU FOR GREAT MEMORIES!!

U16 Football : the U16 football team had a fine win over Croom on Sunday in the U16 Division 2 Semi-Final.  They put in a great performance to come out on the right side of a 2-13 to 1-10 scoreline.  They will play Ballylanders in the Final.

U10 : The U10 hurlers are taking part in an away hurling blitz on Saturday next 30th September in Clarecastle.  Enjoy the trip across the border to Clare.

U13 : The U13 Hurlers had a fine win over Pallasgreen in Mackey Park on Wednesday evening last to register their first win of the league.  The team put in a solid performance on Monday evening away to Cois Laoi Gaels but came up against a well drilled side in Staker Wallace GAA Club who took a fine win. A big thank you goes out to the U11 and U12 players who continue to support the U13 players in the league games.  Next up for the squad is a league match against Cappamore on Wednesday next 27th. The U13 hurling league will continue on Monday and Wednesday evenings with the final hurling league game scheduled for Wednesday 04th October. The U13 Football league will commence on Monday 09th October and will continue throughout October with the final game scheduled for Monday 30th October.

New Goal Posts : After our very successful Family Fun day on 03rd June 2017 (who will ever forget the day!!) where children from Ahane NS, Lisnagry NS and Castleconnell NS and other children in the community played mixed games in Boys Hurling & Football and Girls Football & Camogie, we purchased a new set of goal posts as a result of the great turnout and support on the day from the community.  The new set of goal posts have arrived and will be well used by Ahane GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football players and benefit all those playing in Mackey Park.  A big thank you to all who continue to support our underage teams of all ages in hurling, football, camogie and ladies football and also Alan C for his great work in building and delivering the goal posts.
