Ahane GAA : Weekly Notes 09nd October 2017

U16 Football : The Ahane U16 Football team won the County U16 Division 2 Final on Saturday last against Ballylanders in Claughaun.  Ahane were dealt a blow leading up to the game with the news that the 2 Peters (Donohoe and O’Grady) were unavailable due to injury and illness. However, the management team were confident the panel had a great chance of winning. The game started slowly with both teams testing each other out. Ballylanders were crowding the middle third of the field which left a large space in front of the Ahane full back line which they were hoping to exploit. However Denis Hayes, Kevin Morrissey, Aiden Carroll and ably assisted by Sam Dendickken in goals were well up for the task and kept Ballylanders at bay.  Scores were hard to come by and Ahane kept Ballylanders to 1-04 in the first half. A lot of credit for this goes to the hard work and great tackling by the Ahane team in particular Robert Magill, Adam Murrihy and Joey Ryan. Ahane were behind by 2 points (1-04 to 0-05) midway through the first half. Scores from Ahane came from Mark Donnellan 1, Ronan Fox 2 and Andrew Shanahan 2. Ahane then took charge in the middle of the field with the half backs of Conor O’Shea, Andy Rowsome and Tom Marsden stopping all attacks and setting up the forwards for some great scores. The pick of these came courtesy of Padraig Harnett who fielded a kick out and lobbed the keeper from 40 yards. Further points came from Padraig, Ronan, Andrew and Caiman Ayers.  From the re-start, Ahane took control of the game and played some very exciting football. This started with some excellent kickouts from Sam and some great link-up play throughout the field. Alan Conway, David Brennan, Tom O’Hanlon and Jack Barry came on in the 2nd half and kept the pressure on Ballylanders. Ahane scored 2-09 in the 2nd half with goals coming from Ronan and Andrew. Final score Ahane 3-19 Ballylanders 2-08. It was with great joy that captain Andy Rowsome accepted the cup from Bord na nOg Secretary Mary Hassett.  Team: Sam Dendickken, Denis Hayes, Kevin Morrissey, Aidan Carroll, Tom Marsden (2 pts), Padraig Harnett (1-01), Conor O’Shea, Andy Rowsome, Joey Ryan (0-01), Ronan Fox (1-03), Andrew Shanahan(1-03), Adam Murrihy, Caiman Ayers(0-01), Robert Magill, Mark Donnellan(0-05). Alan Conway (0-01) for Robert, David Brennan for Caiman, Tom O’Hanlon for Conor, Jack Barry for Denis, Conor Bourke, Paddy Quinn, Peter O’Grady, Peter Donohoe, Glen Jones, Mark Hickey, Conor O’Brien, William O’Leary, Sean Fahy, Billy McMahon, Brian Murphy.  Well done to all the U16 squad and management team on a great result and a big thank you to all the supporters who roared on the team in Claughan.

U13 Football League : The U13 Football team had their first outing of the U13 league on Monday evening and were worthy winners in a home game against Murroe-Boher.  This was a great start to the league with Ahane having 18 players on the night who played some flowing football.  A big thank you to the U11 and U12 players who supported the U13 players.  Next up for the team is a home league game against St. Patricks on 18th October.

New Additional Facilities / Dressing Rooms Project  :  The construction of our 2 new dressing rooms project continues to progress and the new dressing rooms will add much needed facilities to our clubhouse.

As Gaeilge : Comhghairdeas le foireann sinsir Atháin – imreoirí agus lucht bainistíochta- taréis Corn an Chontae a bhuachaint. Fuair siad an lámh in uachtar ar CLG Saor Theas i bPáirc na nGael seachtain o shin. Thosaigh Saor Theas ar nós na gaoithe agus níorbh fhada go bhfuair siad cúl breá a chuir chun tosaigh iad. Ach sheas Atháin an fód agus ní raibh siad ach cúilín chun deiridh ag leath ama. Sa dara leath bhí Atháin ar an ionsaí níos mó agus nuair a fuair Tom Morrissey cúl a chuir na foirne ar chomhscór ní raibh ach foireann amháin a bhuafadh an corn. An scór: Atháin 1 – 24 Saor Theas 1 -17.  Bhronn Dónal Morrissey an corn ar Jeffrey Enright, ocáid deas eile don chlub.  Cosúil leis na busanna- nuair a thagann ceann amháin bíonn ceann eile díreach ina dhiaidh! An scéal céanna le peileadóirí faoi 16 Atháin. Bhuaigh said Cluiche Ceannais an Chontae (Roinn 2) Dé Sathairn seo caite le bua mór . Atháin 3 – 19 Baile an Londraigh 2 – 8. Dhá chorn buaite ag Atháin  in ocht lá! Comhghairdeas go háirithe do na peileadóirí agus a lucht tacaíochta mar chuireann siad isteach an chuid oibre gach bliain agus titeann siad faoi scáth an sliotair go minic. Atháin abú!
