U16.5 Schools County Hurling Final 

Castletroy College 3-12

Kilfinane 0-12

Castletroy College had a superb victory over Kilfinane in the u16.5 Schools County Hurling Final in Rathkeale on Wednesday 17th January. 

Despite a bitter cold day for hurling and extremely tough conditions, Castletroy played some excellent hurling throughout, aided in no small way by the big Ahane contingent of Padraig Harnett, Andrew Shanahan, Aidan Carroll, Kevin Morrissey, Jack Barry, Mark Donnellan, Gavin Cole.

Kilfinane got off the mark 1st with a quick point but Castletroy settled well and midway through the 1st half led by 2-02 to 0-2 thanks to 2 excellently taken goals. But Kilfinane came back strong with some lovely taken points to leave it 2-06 to 0-08 at half time.

 The 2nd half was nip and tuck for 20 minutes and the score was 2-08 to  0-10 when Castletroy broke free to score a decisive 3rd goal, followed by a quick point to leave the result in no doubt and eventually ran out on a score line of 3-12 to 0-12 to bring home the cup and County Title. 

This was a very well deserved victory and the Ahane players did their club and college proud as the trio of Padraig Harnett, Aidan Carroll and Jack Barry and Mark Donnellan performed admirably in defence, forcing Kilfinane to strike from distant, with Kevin Morrissey and Andrew Shanahan in excellent form in the midfield and half forward areas.
