Our U14 Feile footballers travelled to Askeaton yesterday afternoon to take on St. Senan's in the Feile Peil B final.  The squad travelled in great anticipation having come through three highly competitive matches in the run up to the final and having displayed super flowing football, awesome teamwork and mighty determination throughout every game but the players and team mentors were well aware that the St. Senan's team had even more impressive displays, very competitive wins and large scores against opposing teams in their run to Askeaton.

The team put in a fantastic squad effort against a superb St Senan's team who were physically very strong, played some excellent football and who had a rich vein of U14's start the game.  The Ahane team on the day was sprinkled with 9 of the U13 players and 2 of the U12 squad who joined 8 of the U14 group to make up the match day squad.

The St. Senan's team started well and took some great scores in the heavy underfoot conditions during the first half.  The Ahane players took a little time to settle and needed a score before half time to get back into the match but it just didn't come despite dominating much of the final 10 minutes before half time and going so close a few times.  St. Senan's went in 2-4 to 0-0 at half time.  It was always going to be an uphill effort thereafter in the second half as the pitch conditions got heavier which did not suit our young mobile squad.  St. Senan's went on to claim a richly deserved win with a great display of football.

The full squad and young Ahane team did not let themselves, the Mentors or the large Ahane support that travelled to Askeaton down with their huge commitment, teamwork and display to the very end.  Well done to Colm, Stephen, Gavin, Kyle, Craig, Danny, Dylan, Sean, Ruairi, Jack, John, Kieran, Will, Adam, David, Jonah, James D and to our U12 players yesterday who supported the squad (James O'M and Paddy - and also to U12 players Liam and Tony who contributed to earlier games) on your excellent effort yesterday.

Thank you to the players who travelled to Askeaton from being away in Cork / Kerry for the game, all the parents and supporters who travelled to Askeaton to cheer on the team, Mairead for the half time oranges and to all in Ahane GAA for the encouragement and messages of support to the group.   Congratulations to the young Ahane squad on a really great Feile football run and your excellent efforts over course of the 4 Feile games - we look forward to exciting U13 and U14 league games ahead.  U14 Mentors.
