Ahane Junior A Hurlers overcome Ballybricken

Ahanes Junior A Hurlers opened their East League campaign with a well deserved and hard fought win over a very determined Ballybricken side in Caherelly on Sunday last on a final scoreline of 3-13 to 1-12.
Aided by a strong wind, Ballybricken started the brighter of the 2 teams, but scores were hard to come by and it was only 2pts to 1pt after 15mins, however Ballybricken added a goal and both teams traded points to leave Ballybricken ahead on a scoreline of 1-05 to 6pts at halftime.
The early 2nd half exchanges saw both teams trading scores and by 40mins it was still Ballybricken ahead 1-08 to 0-09, however Ahane then upped a gear and within 10mins Ahane had rattled in 2 goals and a point to roar into the lead by 2-10 to 1-10 - one goal a real net buster from full forward David Laing. Young sub Luke O Sullivan added another brilliant solo goal as Ahane ran out worthy winners in the end on the final scoreline of 3-13 to 1-12.
Ahane’s backs played very well throughout and especially in a tough 1st half as they held their own against the stiff breeze, while Ahane’s midfield and forwards really clicked into gear in the 2nd half to make their dominance count on the score board.
All in all, it was a very encouraging start to Ahane’s League campaign and hopefully Ahane can drive forward and maintain their good start with a home game against Murroe Boher coming up at home next Sunday 15th.
