GOAL FEST IN MACKEY PARK
Those people lucky enough to come down to Mackey Park on Sunday evening 15th April were treated to a feast of goals as Ahane overcame Murroe Boher in the Junior A East Hurling League on a final scoreline of 6-17 to 1-13.
The match started at a terrific pace with Murroe, aided by a strong wind raced into a 4pt to 1 lead, before Pat Minehan lashed in a goal, followed quickly by a cracker of a goal from Jack O Brien. Murroe responded with 2pts before another fine goal from Conor Morrissey, a goal from Murroe, 2pts from Tommy Clifford and Ollie Moran and one from Tom Doheny to leave it 3-05 to 1-08 in favour of Ahane at half time with the real heroes of the 1st half, the 6 backs of Ahane who worked tirelessly against the wind and strong pressure from Murroe.
The 2nd half was more one way traffic as Ahane slotted on 1-08 without reply including a 2nd goal for Patrick Minehan and some beautiful points from Tom Doheny, Jack O Brien, William Brennan, Ollie Moran and Tommy Clifford, with Andrew Minehan and Tom Doheny adding further goals and late points from Conor Morrissey and Tom Doheny who finished with a personal tally of 1-05.
This was a really strong performance from Ahane’s Junior A squad who are slowly developing into a united squad with the backs playing excellent throughout and all the forwards contributing scores in an excellent 2nd half performance.
