Ahane edged out Kilmallock by 4 points earlier this evening in a cracking game of hurling in the Newgarden sunshine, winning 4-11 to 2-13.

Playing against a notable wind in the first half, the lads struggled to get going at times and the Balbec men edged ahead by 2-7 to 1-2 at the break.

With the breeze at thier backs in the second half, Ahane started to claw back the lead, picking some great scores with Ronan Fox in particular knocking over a few beauties from the left wing.

The Ahane backs and midifeld pairing began to dominate proceedings, snuffing out the Kilmallock attack any time danger appeared to lurk.

The Ahane mentors made what turrned out to be an inspired switch in moving Padraig Harnett form the full-back berth he occupied in the first half to the forwards for the second period. When the renowned defender wiped away the nose bleed suffered by most defenders who venture past the half way line,  he proved to be a real fox-in-the-box, poaching two goals in quick succession to level the game. Ronan Reale nonchalantly lobbed their keeper from 40 yrs on the turn putting us 3 points ahead and in truth, Ahane never looked like surrendering the lead thereafter. The icing on the cake were two well worked team scores from the left wing by current Senior panilst Luke O'Sullivan and Kevin Morrissey.

Overall, when the cob-webs were shed the lads turned in a great team performance in what was a very entertaining game of hurling. Well done!

Ahanes next outing is against Doon, in Doon next Friday evening, 27th April at 7pm.
