Boys hurling blitz – a great success

Ahane GAA hosted a very successful hurling tournament for September 2018 entrants to Castletroy College on Wednesday 9th May in Mackey Park. The emphasis on the day was for the boys to make new acquaintances before they commence their sporting journey and playing days in Castletroy College. A huge well done to all who took part in the tournament and primary schools represented were Ahane, Lisnagry, Gaelscoil Chaladh an Treoigh & Milford. There was a great turnout on the day with 27 boys taking part.

The players got the opportunity to have a friendly warm up and a bit of banter prior to their game. It was a game that had everything - high intensity, awesome skills and great scores. The future of hurling in Castletroy College certainly looks bright with the addition of this group of players.

Of note on the day was the high standard of hurling from each player and at the same time every player enjoying themselves. Comghairdeas to Mark Field, Milford N.S. and Darragh Humphreys Lisnagry N.S. who received players of the match honors and were presented with their awards at a post-match reception in the clubhouse by Castletroy College Principal Padraig Flanagan.

The boys also got the opportunity to meet with past pupils and current U21 Limerick panel members Colm Carrol, Ciaran Barry & Mark O’Dwyer on the day. Current Limerick senior panel member & past pupil of Castletroy College Gearóid Hegarty was also in attendance.

Thanks to Castletroy College teachers Leonard Coughlan and Liam Real for their help with the coordination of this event. Special thanks also to Louis Quirke for providing refreshments for the boys post match. It was lovely to see boys gather and enjoy the chat afterwards in the club house.
