Limerick Senior Hurlers

Having been unfortunate not to qualify for the Munster Final, the seniors resumed action against Carlow in a bid to get through to the All-Ireland Quarter-Finals against the Leinster Final losers (Kilkenny).

Carlow, having won the Joe McDonagh cup the previous week, had home advantage on a burnt looking Dr. Cullen Park field. Their fortunes suffered the same fate as the grass, fading badly to a determined Limerick side who appeared on fire, eventually winning out comfortably by 5-22 to 0-13.

Great to see our own Dan and Tom Morrissey lining out and continuing to hurl some mighty stuff in the half back and half forward lines respectively – with Tom adding 5 points to his name on the day.

The lads play Kilkenny this coming Sunday 15th in Thurles at 2pm, a game we’ll all look forward to. The whole club would wish Tom, Dan and all the Limerick squad the best of luck on the day.

Limerick Minor Hurlers

The U17s, having lost to Tipperary in last week’s Munster Final, are now engaged in a round-robin playoff against Galway and Kilkenny, two of which will progress to the All-Ireland semi-finals where Dublin and Tipperary await. The Limerick lads were in a rather unique position of playing before the Munster Senior Final, and now the Leinster Senior final replay with the Kilkenny / Galway game re-fixed for Thurles.

Limerick, including Ahane’s Padraig Harnett who started and Andrew Shanahan who came in as a sub early in the second half, went down to a strong Galway side. With 15 minutes to go, Limerick trailed by 5 points but they failed to narrow the margin any closer. Some missed scored followed by the Tribesmen added to their tally meant Galway had an strong lead going into the closing stages. The fatigue of having played 5 big games in 6 weeks looked to have taken its tool against a fresh Galway side making their first outing of the year. In the end the Galway men ran out easy winners, 1-20 to 0-12.

Next up is Kilkenny in two weeks’ time in what will be a make or break game for the lads.
