Mungret St. Pauls 2-16 Ahane 0-17

In the last game of the group in the Premier Minor hurling championship on Friday evening in Mungret Ahane went down by 5 points as the final whistle was blown but in truth, this was a very evenly contested game throughout. It started point for point in the first half with some excellent scores coming from both teams.

Ahane struggled to break down the Mungret defence and goal chances were few. When the short whistle blew Ahane had the edge with a one point lead. Shortly after the restart, Mungret scored a goal after a long ball into the square was finished to the net by their corner forward. This gave Mungret a boost which was followed on 5 mins later with a well taken opportunity for a second one. To their credit, the Ahane lads battled hard for the next 15 mins and narrowed the gap to 2 points with 10 minutes left. Mungret kicked in again towards the end run out winners by 5points. Mungret now top the group and go into a semi-final place while Ahane go into a quarter final with the opponents yet to be decided.
