Our Under 14 girls were out again this evening in Mackey Park in their County Championship Semi Final against Na Piarsaigh. From the get go it was a close encounter and both teams battled hard, each team scored a point each in the opening seven minutes but Ella R put Ahane/MB ahead when she caught a high ball and scored Ahane/MB’s first goal of the night. But Na Piarsaigh were soon on the come back and went on to score a point from the puck out.

The six Ahane/MB forwards continued to try to work the ball in and there was lovely pieces of team play from Ciara O, Éle, Ella, Sarah Jane, and Niamh B which resulted in Niamh getting two points. The score at half time showed just how close and hard fought the first half was. The teams went in at half time Ahane/MB 1-03 Na Piarsaigh 0-03.

Na Piarsaigh were first out of the blocks in the second half and the scored a goal within the first two minutes of the half. Much like in the first half for Na Piarsaigh, it was now down to Ahane/MB to fight back which they did with another goal in the 7th minute again coming off the stick of Ella. It was a team effort and the ball was worked in well from the backs, through mid field, and then into the forwards. Throughout the second half, Ahane/MB held their defence solid but in injury time Na Piarsaigh came back and scored their second goal, meaning the score line was Ahane/MB 2-06 Na Piarsaigh 2-03. Ahane/MB never panicked though and managed to keep a hold on the game until the referee blew the full time whistle. The game ended on the scoreline of Ahane/MB 2-06 Na Piarsaigh 2-03

A huge well done again to our girls on their win tonight! They are now in a county final next tuesday against Newcastle West (time and venue tbc) so keep an eye out on our social media pages for details!
