Ahane Camogie club were thrilled to avail of an opportunity to play wheelchair hurling last Thursday evening the 5th of March in Delta sports dome!

The Ahane Camogie Club U12 group happened to train in Delta at the same time as the Munster Wheelchair hurling team in November last year and their manager, David Fitzgerald (no relation to the other Davy Fitz) invited the Ahane girls to play against the junior section of the Munster wheelchair hurling team. We brought a selection of 25 players from the current U14 and U12 panels for a series of games and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s sport.

All the feedback from players and parents alike was hugely positive. The most common reaction from the Ahane girls was “I loved it, it was such fun, can we do it again”.

At the end of the evening a selection of mentors and parents got their helmets on to play a game against the Munster wheelchair hurling senior team who are the current All-Ireland champions and they literally ran rings around us with the highlight from the Ahane side, a “JBM” style overhead flicked (fluke) goal from Kevin Donnellan! 🙌🏻

The wheelchair players display of strength, skill, speed and bravery all evening was breathtaking and eye-opening for all involved in Ahane camogie.

Ahane Camogie Club would like to sincerely thank David Fitzgerald and all involved in Munster wheelchair hurling for the opportunity and the warmth of the welcome and hospitality on the night and wish them well in defending their All-Ireland crown in the coming season 🙌🏻👏🏻
