Friday evening saw Ahane take on Newcastle West in Pallaskenry in the Final of the Adult Summer League. A tough battle from beginning to end saw Ahane take hold of the game from early on, as they took their goal chances and got some super points.

Aine Reynolds got the scoring underway for Ahane with a free, closely followed by Newcastle West getting their first point also from a free. Ahane’s first goal came from Niamh Brennan as she absolutely smashed the ball into the back of the net. There was some great fielding of the ball, some of which led to scores. Susie McGovern caught a beautiful pass, which she laid off to Aine who slotted it over the bar. Huge credit must go to the Ahane six backs and goalkeeper Niamh Power, Aine Herbert, Sarah Crotty, Ella Ryan, Aisling Herbert, Ann Kennedy, and Rachael Donnellan who hooked, hassled and stood their ground throughout the game to keep Newcastle West goal less throughout the game. Newcastle West took some good points and brought the gap back to two before a great piece of team play saw Sarah Cosgrove get the ball and rattle it into the bottom corner of the net to put Ahane up by five. Newcastle West got the last point of the quarter to leave the game standing as Ahane 2-02 Newcastle West 0-04. The second quarter got underway, and it was the same again, with both teams giving it their all. Points from Aine and Aoife Quinn kept the Ahane score ticking over while Newcastle West got two more points of their own to leave the scores at half time as Ahane 2-04 Newcastle West 0-06.

It was Susie who got the scores up and running after half time as she got a point from a seriously tight angle. Ahane got their third and final goal of the game after Noreen played a great pass into Aine, who found Niamh, who scored a screamer of a goal. Newcastle West never gave up, and in a great response to the goal they got the next two points. The final two points of the quarter came from Aine and Niamh, both points were absolute beauties. Aine got Ahane’s final three points of the game with her final score a contender for score of the game. Newcastle West did get one more point before the final whistle blew but Ahane ran out comprehensive winners. Final score Ahane 3-11 Newcastle West 0-10. Both teams must be commended for their work rate and their skill throughout the game.

Huge congratulations to our girls and their management on a fantastic win! We are all so proud of them, and they are a credit to themselves, each other, their families, and to the club.
