We hosted the group stages of Féile 2023 on Saturday 15th April. We hosted Division 3 which saw us welcome Murroe Boher, Knockaderry.Ballyagran, St Ailbes, Ballybrown, Kilmallock and Doon. We played Kilmallock, Ballybrown and Murroe Boher. With fantastic team performances throughout we came out on top of our group which put us in the Semi Final against Doon. We put in one of the most complete performances of the day in the Semi Final and won out convincing winners to book our spot in the Final in Killeedy on Sunday against Ballybrown.
We hit the road for Killeedy on a gloriously sunny day with hopes and dreams that we would be coming home with the Division Three Féile trophy. Things got off to a rocky start as Ballybrown scored a goal and a point in quick succession. Isabelle Collins scored for Ahane from placed balls, but Ballybrown found the net once again to put the gap at five points. Isabelle found the net at the end of the second half but again Ballybrown scored a goal in response and at half time the teams went in on a score line of Ahane 1-02 Ballybrown 3-02.
The second half got underway, and our girls came out all guns blazing! Isabelle slotted over another free before Chloe Hussey got a point to add her name to the score sheet. Erin Madigan then got a lovely point, the first of her very important scores in the half. Chloe Carey popped up with a stunning goal and then tacked on a point to bring her tally for the day to 1-01! Ballybrown fought hard and scored a point from a free before getting a goal in the 23rd minute of the half which put them three points ahead, the game came down to a nail-biting finish as Chloe Hussey found the back of the Ballybrown net just a the clocked ticked over into injury time. It was shoulders to the wheel for the next three minutes as both sides fought to get possession of the ball and get that all important last score. However, it was Erin Madigan that secured possession for Ahane and ran for the Ballybrown half of the field where she calmly slotted over a beauty of a point that put her side one point ahead and secured own win!
A fantastic achievement for the girls!
