Ahane's Padraig Harnett and Andrew Shanahan successfully represented Limerick U16 A’s in the All-Ireland blitz on Saturday last and coupled with Ahane's Senior hurler Johnny Meskell on the Management team, brought home the silverware.
Drawn in a tough group based in Grangemockler GAA in South Tipperary, they faced Kilkenny and Wexford. They first faced the “cats” and lost out in what was a high quality and physical game, on a final score-line of 1-12 to 0-9. There was nothing between the sides and Limerick will rue a few missed goal chances with the game in the balance.
Limerick then faced Wexford, needing to win to be in with a shout of making the shield final. With a much more confident performance they won out emphatically on a score of 3-15 to 1-6. The big win meant Limerick qualified for the shield final in Clonmel where they would face a Waterford side who had earlier accounted for pre-tournament favourites Cork.
In what was a fantastic game of hurling, Limerick proved stronger than their Munster rivals, winning out by 4 points, on a final score of 2-8 to 1-7. In the third game of the day, it was a tough ask of both sets of players, but Limerick showed great resolve to battle it out – and leading throughout were our own Padraig Harnett and Andrew Shanahan. Both lads had a fine tournament and did the club proud. The experience of playing and winning at inter-county level will stand to the lads, and it’s great to see a couple of All-Ireland medals coming back to the club.
Congrats to all from Ahane who represented Limerick at the weekend and also to U16A Mentor Johnny Meskell- himself no stranger to All Ireland success.
ATHÁIN AGUS LUIMNEACH ABÚ!!!
