On Wednesday evening this week, our U16 hurlers played out a very entertaining game against Knockaderry/Monagea in Mackey Park and deservedly edged it on a score line of 3-16 to 4-11. With a number of lads away on holiday and at Irish College, the call went out to some of our U14 squad to ensure the game went ahead. And at the end of the game, each of them could be very proud of their performances as they battled bravely against their opponents. The Ahane lads started strong and flew into a 1-2 to nil lead after 10 mins with a great team move out of defence leading to a well worked goal. The opposition came back into the game after that and finished the half strong to lead 2-07 to 1-06 at half time.
The Ahane players regrouped during the break and came out flying at the start of the 2nd half, drawing level after 5 mins and then taking control opening up a 4 point lead, a lead they held until the final whistle. Some of the hurling displayed in that 2nd half was as good as you would see anywhere.
Well done on a great team performance to Gavin Cole, Ciaran Coulter, Conor O Brien, Colm Slattery-Wright, Jack Barry (Capt), Aidan Carroll, William O Leary, Kevin Morrissey, Peter Donohoe, Liam O Mara, Adam Murrihy, Craig O Connell, Cormac Greaney, Tom Marsden, Donnacha O Leary, Jack Butler.
