Limerick Senior Hurlers
A magnificent game of hurling in Thurles yesterday saw Limerick overcome an ever resilient Kilkenny side by 0-27 to 1-22.
The game which remained on a knife-edge until the end, saw some great passages of play throughout. Ahane are immensely proud of the contributions of both Tom and Dan Morrissey to the win who again were to the fore throughout this epic game. Dan dominated his area at wing back, spectacularly ruling the skies with some magnificent high fielding, and setting up ball after ball for the Limerick attack. Indeed the Cats swapped many a man including former hurler of the year Richie Hogan onto his wing but it mattered not to Dan!
While Tom finished the game with 4 great scores to his name, two of these scores were late on when needed most . Firstly, following the blow of conceding the Kilkenny goal, Tom caught the resulting puck-out and finished over the bar himself. With the game then hanging in the balance, Tom collected a ball deep in his own half and, pulling on all his reserves, he took on the ball forward shrugging off the Kilkenny defensive challenges to slot the ball between the posts from under the new stand putting Limerick ahead at the death.
Both were deservedly nominated for man-of-the-match in the Sunday Game that evening. We congratulate Dan on picking up the award, and it was fitting and proud to hear the lads being spoken of so highly by their peers and indeed bringing the Ahane club into the spotlight for the national audience. As Dalo said, "come on Ahane the spuds are boiling" !!
