Ahane U12 Footballers come out tops at Football Finals Day in Mick Neville Park!
Well done to the U12 football squad and management who proudly represented Ahane today in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale. Managing to get to the finals day was a dedicated task from players, coaches and of course the ever supportive parents.
A strong Ahane troop of 17 players played in two matches in the sweltering heat this morning with our first match against a strong and eager Galbally side. Ahane convincingly dominated an eventful first half and some well taken scores in the early stages propelled the boys into a well organised and constructive pattern of play which was maintained in both halves. Tireless running from our midfielders and forwards and some fine point taking and goal scoring at key stages helped the boy’s progress with a convincing win securing their place in the final against Dromcollogher Broadford
Upon beating Galbally the boys swiftly retired to the dressing room to prepare for the final. After some refuelling, rehydration and some serious team talk they were well prepared to take on Drom Broadford.
An early goal helped the boys settle straight away and with only 5 minutes on the clock Ahane had already scored a plethora of impressive goals and points. Drom Broadford failed to make the best of their scoring chances, Ahane took advantage of this working the ball back up the field and skillfully converting their scoring opportunities. The pattern of play for the second half was much the same as the first with Ahane sending in great ball to the mid field and forwards where it was accurately aimed at the uprights. The backs worked well together displaying fearless blocks and smothering defensive play displacing the ball out the wing time after time. Ahane ran out worthy winners on the day with great excitement at the sound of the final whistle.
Comhghairdeas to this great bunch of players on their unquestionable commitment throughout the season. This fine team continues to show improvement at every match displaying excellent teamwork and discipline in the Ahane jersey. Well done to Gary and Brendan for their great work with the lads and to everyone who has supported the boys during their 2018 campaign so far. A special thanks to the parents and supporters for coming out to Rathkeale to cheer on the boys. Thanks also to Liam, Eugene, Seamie, Sean for match assistance today.
A special mention for Paddy who departed early morning from his tent at Electric Picnic to line out with his team. Well done Paddy on your dedication to your team mates and we hope you enjoy the rest of the music festival on your return to Stradbally!
