Ahane took on Kildimo-Pallaskenry in the 2nd Round of the Co. U21 Premier Hurling Championship this Tuesday night at a windy Knocklong pitch. Ahane lost the toss and played against the elements in the first half. KIldimo Pallaskenry were quick out of blocks and raced into an early 0-5 to 0-2 lead. Despite two early scores from Ronan Fox and some frees from Adam Murrihy, Ahane were struggling to get a foothold in the match. Luckily, a strong finish to the half meant that Ahane were tied at 0-9 each at the mid-way point.

Ahane came out in much more bullish fashion in the 2nd half and quickly used the wind advantage to go into a 4 point lead. The defence held strong all through and conceded no scores from half time on. Further points from the accurate Adam Murrihy and a series of points from play resulted in a good win for Ahane on a scoreline of 0-17 to 0-9.

This was a mixed performance and there is loads of room for improvement. However, there were some really strong performances in defence, especially in the second half, but kudos must go to Ronan Fox, Mark Donnellan and Adam Murrihy for taking the game to Kildimo Pallaskenry when the game was in the balance. Special mention also to Cian Casey who came on in the second half and made a big impression – hopefully this is the first of many appearances in the sash.
