Ahane Senior Hurlers
Our seniors hurlers went down by a goal to neighbours Monaleen on Friday last in Claughaun, losing 1-17 to 0-17. The game was always tight, but Ahane always kept a score or two ahead until late on when Monaleen’s Gerry Collins finished to the net when a ball out of defence was cut out. This pushed them two points ahead, and while Ahane to their credit clawed back the lead, the conditions favoured Monaleen and so did the scoreboard which saw them push ahead late on to clench the win and 2 points.
There were some strong performances from Ahane in defence through captain Evan Enright and debutant and minor Padraig Harnett. Outside them, Dan Morrissey was commanding as always, dominating his patch at centre back, while Ciaran Barry and Paul O’Halloran worked hard throughout í lar na pairce. Scoring power was to be Ahane’s main issue on the night. Young William Brennan claimed a score and won some frees, but it was Tom Morrissey who shouldered the attack in general throughout. Unerring from frees (many of whom were won by himself), Tom was also imperious from play and notched a number of fine scores which kept the scoreboard ticking over throughout.
To lose was disappointing, but there is chance to make immediate amends when Ahane take on Ballybrown this Friday 19th at 6:45pm in Claughaun again.
Please come out and support the group as they try to get back to winning ways.
