On a fabulous bank holiday Monday evening in Mackey Park, Granagh/Ballingarry came to play Ahane. These two teams are no strangers to each other and have produced some classic games over the years.
Granagh/Ballingarry got off the mark first with a point from play which Ahane quickly responded with a point of their coming from corner forward Shauna D'Arcy. Roisin O'Mara got her first point of the game in the second minute. Granagh drew the game level in the fourth minute with a point. Ahane played some fantastic pieces of team play that saw a goal coming from Niamh Mulcahy in the seventh minute making it Ahane 1-03 Granagh 0-02. Ahane pushed on from there with Niamh tacking on another three points. In the fourteenth minute Shauna got her second point of the game after a great ball in from the middle of the field. Susie scored her first point of the game in the 20th minute, from the puck out, Ahane won the ball and Niamh Mulcahy scored Ahane's and her second goal of the game. There was fierce battling going on in all parts of the field and there were some wonderful pieces of hooking and blocking from both teams. The Granagh goalkeeper made a fantastic save from a bullet of a shot from Niamh, which rebounded off the goalkeepers hurley and went over the bar. Shauna added to her tally for the first half as she scored a goal in the 33rd minute of the first half. Ahane finished the first half strongly and went in at half time on a scoreline of Ahane 3-14 to Granagh 0-03.
Granagh started the second half with 3 unanswered points within the first four minutes. Ahane got their first point of the half in the 7th minute with a point coming from Niamh from play. Niamh and Roisin added on a further four points for Ahane making it 3-19 to 0-07. Aine Reynolds added another goal for Ahane in the 15 minute of the second half. Roisin, Niamh, and Susie added on some more points for Ahane and with 23 minutes gone in the second half the score was Ahane 4-22 Granagh 0-07. In the 25th minute Granagh got a penalty but Ahane keeper Aoife Quinn stepped up and made a fantastic save, controlled the ball and cleared it out to the wing. Niamh added on two more points and the game ended Ahane 4-24 Granagh 0-07.
Ahane have made it two wins from two in the league and they are now going to play Ballyagran in Ballyagran on Sunday 28th April. Big thank you to all who came out and supported the girls this evening in Ahane.
