Our U10 hurlers were invited to the prestigious Naas U10 Hurling Tournament held last Saturday, 15th June. The bus left the clubhouse at 8.15am on Saturday morning, carrying 27 very excited U9 and U10 players, as well as their parents and mentors. On arrival in Naas GAA’s very impressive grounds, we were greeted by glorious weather and club officers who outlined the format for the day. It was straight into action then for our 2 teams, who each played 3 matches in their respective groups. The competing teams came from several different counties all over Ireland. It was clear from early on that the standard of play was very high, but the Ahane boys acquitted themselves very well, winning 4 games in total, and losing out in 2 by the narrowest of margins. This was good enough to secure qualification for the Club of the Day final, where our 2 teams came up against Kilkenny’s Dicksboro GAA. The young Cats proved to be every bit as formidable as their senior counterparts, and won out both games in well contested matches, despite great endeavor shown by our lads. There was absolutely no shame in defeat, and our lads displayed great skill and commitment throughout the day’s hurling. There was a lot of tired players and adults on the bus home, but were back in high spirits after a stop off in Obama Plaza, and a sing song enroute back to Ahane that evening. The whole day proved to be a fantastic experience, and one that these young hurlers will never forget. We would like to sincerely thank all the players, parents and their mentors who took part, not to mention Naas GAA Club for their generosity and super organisation over the course of the day. U10 Mentors.
