Coolyroe was the venue for the opening round of the Neville Jewellers Senior Camogie County Championship between Ahane and Newcastle West. Both teams started well with points coming from Aine Reynolds for Ahane and Rebecca Delee for Newcastle West. The sides traded points for the first fourteen minutes and the score at the water break was Ahane 0-02 Newcastle West 0-04. Newcastle West started to show their dominance in the second quarter, but Ahane dealt with it well and just before half time Shauna D’Arcy got on flick on the ball from a long range free from Aine Reynolds that saw the ball hit the roof of the Newcastle West net and Ahane get the first goal of the game. Score at half time Ahane 1-02 Newcastle West 0-07. However, Newcastle West came out all guns blazing in the second half and scored 1-07 in the third quarter with no reply from Ahane. Score at the second water break was Ahane 1-02 Newcastle West 1-16. Ahane fought and battled hard but Newcastle West were the stronger side on the day. Ahane did get one last point before the full-time whistle, but Newcastle West got points of their own and added another goal to their tally. The game ended on the score line of Ahane 1-03 Newcastle West 2-20.
