Thursday saw the second round of the East Junior B Hurling County Championship where Ahane welcomed Cappamore to Mackey Park. In traditional Junior B style there was loads of pulling on the ground and clash of the ash. Cappamore were fastest out of the blocks and got a goal and 3 points in the first ten minutes without reply from Ahane. Podge O’Connor was the man to get Ahane’s first score, but Cappamore got another point and at the water break it was Ahane 0-01 Cappamore 1-04. Seamus Richardson got a free and put the ball over the bar and Paul O’Connor then went on to score the point of the match as the ball was in a mid-air and he pulled on it first time and it flew straight over the black spot. Seanie O’Connor got a point from a free, but Cappamore continued to get points of their own and kept their lead at five points. David Kennedy stepped up once again and blasted the sliotar in past the goalkeeper to add to his growing goal tally for the season. The gap was down to two, but Cappamore added on two more points before Ahane responded with two Podge O’Connor points and a Seanie O’Connor point from a free. Half time Ahane 1-07 Cappamore 1-09. Again, despite the Ahane lads’ best effort, Cappamore kept their grasp on the game and continued to keep their scores ticking over. The second half water break saw the scores as Ahane 1-09 Cappamore 1-15. The game finished up on a score line of Ahane 1-14 Cappamore 1-20.
