In the final game of the weekend the Ahane Junior A team took on St Patricks under lights in Caherdavin. From the get-go, St Patricks were the stronger team and got some outrageous points from all over the field. They had four points scored before Ahane got their first point on the board curtesy of a Johnny Meskell free. St Patricks went on to score eight more points before the water break. They did have two shots on goal in the first quarter, but William O’Leary made two very good saves and kept a clean sheet. Score at the water break Ahane 0-01 St Patricks 0-12. The second quarter followed the same script with St Patricks getting more points and again some beauties of scores they were. Johnny got our second point from the free and Davy Laing got our third point just before half time. At half time it was Ahane 0-03 St Patricks 0-18. Johnny got another point at the beginning of the second half, but St Patricks tacked on more points and continued their dominance. Ahane did battle hard, and there was some great fielding of the ball and interlinking play. Conor Heffernan got his name on the score sheet with a point from a free, but the Hegarty brothers caused serious problems for Ahane as both Gearoid and Diarmuid got scores from play and placed balls. Second half water break score was Ahane 0-05 St Patricks 0-23. Ahane got three more points before the full-time whistle was blown. Luke O’Sullivan popped over a great point and Conor Heffernan got two more points from placed balls. The game ended on a score line of Ahane 0-08 St Patricks 0-27.
