Chairde,

Following on from our most recent Ahane Senior Committee meeting, the club has decided to be more pro active regarding the health and wellness of its members and the wider community. The club is also in the process of carrying out various initiatives to assist us in becoming a “Healthy Club” which is an initiative set up by the GAA to encourage clubs to be pro active concerning health & wellness. These include ,establishing no smoking zones around the grounds of the club, buddie benches, appropriate health and wellness signage, healthy club statements, liaising with external health organisations, running CPR /first aid courses etc. There are many benefits to the club once we have attained this status, including benefits and grants for various projects of a health/wellness nature. It is important to emphasise we will be promoting and fostering the physical and mental well being of our members/community as well as collaborating with outside agencies to assist us in this field.

We are in the process of forming a Health & Wellness sub committee who will be responsible and will work with our senior committee for the organisation and implementation of these initiatives and we hope to have this finalised by the end of September..

As a club we believe it is a win win situation for all whereby everyone can benefit in some manner and actually enjoy the initiatives a long the way.

We aim to communicate various health & wellness information/bulletins on a quarterly basis or more depending on the requirement/needs of our members/community.

For this quarter we are focusing on mental health , and providing specific information and fostering awareness on suicide prevention/intervention.

Regards

Sean Carey/Health & Wellness Officer Ahane GAA Club
