Mackey Park was the venue for the third round of the Senior Camogie Championship game between Ahane and Crecora. A game that saw a total of nine goals scored over the sixty minutes of action. The first score of the game was a beautiful shot from Niamh Brennan that went over the bar. Crecora put a point over the bar from a placed ball. Ahane tried to break through the Crecora defence but were denied and the ball went out for a 45. Aine Reynolds slotted over the 45 and Ahane went ahead. The first of the goals came from Niamh Brennan but the score started way out the field with Molly Hussey and Shauna Darcy who did savage work to get the ball into Niamh. Not a minute later and Ahane had broken through again, this time is was their captain Noreen Flanagan who struck it home. Similarly, to Niamh’s goal, the work by the girls out the field made it. The games third goal came two minutes later and this time it was for Crecora as their full forward drove through the middle of the Ahane defence and made it impossible for Niamh Power in goals to save it. Crecora got the last two points of the quarter from frees. Scores at the first water break Ahane 2-02 Crecora 1-03. A high intensity first fifteen minutes. Second quarter started and it was again Noreen who got a goal for Ahane, coming from the trojan work of Molly and Ann Kennedy out the field who got the ball to Noreen. Crecora got a good point in response but three minutes later Noreen was in again to get her hat trick! Not happy with just the three goals, three minutes later Noreen scored her fourth after some beautiful play from Aine Reynolds. Ahane were solid in defence with all six backs having great games. The work rate from both sides was top class throughout and there was some great blocks and hooks all over the field. Molly Hussey got her name on the score sheet after being involved in the two goals and leaving it all on the field. Just before the half time whistle Crecora got their second goal and the score at half time was Ahane 5-03 Crecora 2-04. The third quarter started, and it was all Crecora. They scored 1-02 before Shauna Darcy got a point to steady the Ahane charges once more. Judith Mulcahy made a run from centre back and got her first point of the game to keep Ahane six points ahead. Scores at the second water break were Ahane 5-06 Crecora 3-06. It was Shauna Darcy that got Ahane’s sixth and final goal of the game after a lovely ball across the square, which Shauna controlled and buried it. Crecora got the next two scores from frees before Judith Mulcahy got the final score of the game. The game ended on a score line of Ahane 6-07 Crecora 3-08. Ahane are now in the County Semi Final in two weeks’ time. Keep an eye on our social media over the week to see all the details.
